Kinnaird Castle, home to the Earl and Countess of Southesk, offers shooting and fishing opportunities as well as accommodation.
The castle has been in the family for over 600 years and lies amidst 1300 acres of magnificent walled parkland nestled between the unspoiled Angus coastline and the gently rolling glens.
The Estate has five miles of double-bank fishing with 4 beats, Kinnaird Upper, Middle, Lower and Powmouth let weekly and daily. The beats were renowned for their spring runs although nowadays fish are caught throughout the season (16th February to 31st October). The Upper beat has an excellent hut with WC, cooking facilities and log fire. There is a River keeper to look after the beats and ‘get you started’.
Shooting has always been an integral part of the estate and the family has taken a very active part in creating a good environment for wildlife. The shooting coverts were laid out early last century by two very fine shots – the 10th and 11th Earls. The 10th Earl was one of the finest shots of his generation, achieving some remarkable records including 228 pheasants with 238 cartridges in 17 minutes.
The in-hand shoot covers 2500 acres though most of the shooting will take place within the walled park. There is minimal travelling between drives and transport for all 8 guns will be provided. Days of between 150 and 300 birds are usual.
