Today, on International Day of Rural Women (15 October), we recognise women who make an extraordinary contribution to rural life and country sports. One such individual is Abbie Wilson, winner of the Women in Country Sports Award 2025 at the Scottish Country Sports Tourism Awards.
Abbie began clay pigeon shooting after the pandemic and, within a year, earned her first Scotland cap in the Down The Line event at the Home International competition. The Scottish team went on to win the event for the first time since 1982.
Beyond her competitive success, Abbie has become a driving force in introducing more women to the countryside and to field sports. Working closely with SAC Sporting, she helps women experience a wide range of sporting opportunities, including goose and duck shooting, hide-building, game preparation and deerstalking. Her passion lies in giving others the confidence to try something new and to get more women out into the countryside.
Her commitment and leadership continue to inspire. With ambitions to represent Team GB and compete in the world championships in New Zealand, Abbie stands as a true role model for women in country sports and rural communities alike.
