Sustainability at the Core
At TwinPeakes, we are deeply committed to conservation and sustainability. Our core initiative revolves around catch-and-release practices, adhering to Marine Scotland’s guidelines to ensure the safe return of fish to their natural habitat. This practice minimises handling, protects fish stocks, and contributes to the long-term health of Scotland’s waterways.
Our guides educate guests on proper fish-handling techniques, including safe netting, hook removal, and release methods. While catch-and-release is mandatory for Salmon and Sea Trout, we actively promote this practice for all species, including Brown Trout. In collaboration with the River Dee Trust, we are developing advanced guidance on responsible fish handling, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable fishing.
To further protect Scotland’s rivers, we offer a free Disinfection Station—the only such facility on a Scottish river. This initiative prevents the spread of harmful diseases, safeguarding local aquatic ecosystems for future generations.
Custodians of the Riverbank
Our guides play a crucial role in environmental stewardship. They actively monitor river conditions, report pollution or illegal activities to the relevant authorities, and educate guests on conservation challenges facing Atlantic Salmon and other wildlife. By highlighting the rich biodiversity of the region, they inspire a deeper appreciation for Scotland’s natural environment.
Recognising the decline in fly-fishing participation, we are passionate about introducing new generations to the sport. By promoting responsible tourism and sustainable practices, we not only preserve the tradition of fly-fishing but also support the local economy—creating jobs, driving footfall, and benefiting the wider community.
Supporting Our Local Community
As proud ambassadors of the Atlantic Salmon Trust and the River Dee Trust, we actively contribute to conservation efforts aimed at protecting the iconic Atlantic Salmon and its habitat. Beyond environmental initiatives, we are dedicated to supporting our local community in various ways:
- Sustainable Dining:Our lunches are sourced from a local brasserie, featuring locally produced food served in fully recyclable and recycled presentation boxes.
- Local Expertise:All our guides are local residents with years of experience fishing Scotland’s rivers. Their deep knowledge and passion ensure an enriching experience for every guest.
- Community Engagement:We collaborate with local businesses and suppliers, reinforcing our commitment to sustainable tourism and regional growth.

TwinPeakes is proud to operate the Fly Fish 50 initiative, an innovative angling development programme across Aberdeenshire. This initiative is designed to make fly fishing more accessible to people of all backgrounds by offering free and reduced-cost courses. Whether you are a complete novice or looking to refine your skills, our programme provides the perfect opportunity to engage with your local rivers, learn about fish species, and gain a deeper understanding of the environment. By participating, anglers develop a greater appreciation for the natural world while acquiring a skill that offers both relaxation and excitement.
At TwinPeakes, we recognise that getting started with fly fishing can be daunting, especially due to the cost of equipment. That’s why we offer a hire service, allowing anglers to access high-quality gear without the need for a large upfront investment. This service is particularly beneficial for seasoned anglers who prefer to travel light, ensuring they have the necessary equipment without the hassle of transporting bulky gear. Whether you’re fishing for a day or planning a longer trip, our hire service ensures you have everything you need for a successful outing.
In addition to supporting anglers with tuition and equipment hire, TwinPeakes is committed to protecting the health of Scotland’s rivers and fish populations. We operate the only disinfection station on the River Dee, a vital service offered free of charge. This station encourages anglers returning from abroad to disinfect their waders and equipment, reducing the risk of introducing invasive species or harmful pathogens. The consequences of failing to take such precautions can be catastrophic, potentially devastating fish populations and the wider ecosystem. By making this service freely available, we are taking proactive steps to safeguard the future of fly fishing and preserve the delicate balance of our waterways.
The Fly Fish 50 initiative is more than just an angling programme—it is a community-driven effort to promote sustainable fishing practices, educate new generations of anglers, and protect Scotland’s beautiful river environments. Whether you are looking to try fly fishing for the first time, refine your skills, or contribute to conservation efforts, we welcome you to join us.
