Meikleour Ladies’ Charity Day
Ladies from across Scotland and England gathered on the Tay at the weekend for a charity ladies day raising money for Angling For Youth Development. Claire Mercer Nairne hosted the day on her stunning beat at Upper Islamouth and Meikleour House, set in the grounds of Meikleour Estate.
The ladies were all making a weekend of it, gathering Friday evening on Tayside, enjoying the hospitality of Meikleour Arms hotel.
During the day fish were hooked and lost. Fiona hooked into significant fish in Upper Islamouth – we hear it was 30lb plus, (Daniel the ghillie), and after a great fight her line was sliced on a rock. After lunch Daniella hooked into a fish in the Castle Pool, but sadly lost it. Fish were seen, one in particular at the Boxwood Bush pool who made several appearances during the day.
We also had a visit from Dr. Aileen McLeod, MSP for South Scotland (SNP), Minister for Environment, Climate Change, Land Reform and Wild Fisheries Reform. Aileen spent the morning learning to cast a double handed rod and fishing for salmon. She left smiling and keen to come back. Great to see another lady converted to salmon fishing.
Huge thank you Claire Mercer Nairne, her head ghillie Calum McRoberts, Daniel, casting instructors Tom Brown, Cliff Johnston and Malcolm Anderson from Caledonia Fly Company. Meikleour Hotel.
Congratulations Ladies – £1500 (inc gift aid) was raised for Angling for Youth Development by ladies going fishing.
