Tontine Hotel

Near Peebles - The Scottish Borders

Situated in the heart of Peebles, we are a family-run hotel ideal for groups of between 4 and 30 guests. With our enviable location next to the River Tweed we can help to arrange your shooting, stalking or fishing.

Known for our excellent service and food, we have 36 en-suite bedrooms, secure storage for guns and rods, drying room and private parking for our guests. Well-behaved dogs are welcome (maximum of 2 per room). Whatever your interest, with our local knowledge, warm hospitality and activity expertise we will make sure that you have an excellent stay.

On hand to provide instruction, guiding and information is Hardy Academy member and regular Trout & Salmon contributor Finlay Wilson. He can advise on the best options depending on conditions/time of year and has access to fishing on the whole of the Tweed system. Fishing can also be arranged on three miles of private water a short drive from hotel.

We work with 3 estates and can offer a wide range of pheasant shooting, from rough days to full driven days on high pheasants. Most stalking is sika with some roe.

"Once again the Tontine and all their staff made our week stay a great success. This is now my 6th consecutive year at the hotel and our group has actually been staying here even longer than that. It just keeps getting better year on year. Knowing the staff well, it’s like home from home, with all the added bonuses. It’s like having our very own Scottish Country House. The bedrooms, bar and restaurant are all great. It is the perfect place to stay for a relaxing time. Give it a go and I hope you enjoy it as much as we do." Trip Advisor, Reviewed 22 November 2010

It is with pleasure that I can review the wonderful hospitality myself and friends, Ladies Fishing Club enjoyed at the Tontine Hotel. Reception suggested we drop off overnight bags before proceeding to the fishing beat. On arrival an unexpected treat of coffee and bacon sandwiches was very welcome after an early start, so a great beginning to the day.

Warm, Shining, Pristine, Comfortable, Friendly, Thoughtful, too many adjectives to describe the Tontine. A complete surprise since I had not made the booking nor unusually checked out Trip Advisor, and was expecting small town, often drab accommodation.
Arriving back late afternoon we checked into warm comfortable bedrooms enhanced with calming decor, pristine large bathroom, boiling hot water, and a very, very comfortable bed made up with top notch linen and soft downy pillows, bliss. No time to enjoy that as yet. Down for dinner, serve in the stunning Adam room, with its warm colours and attractive tables with fresh flowers. Staff had reserved a table in the lounge so we could enjoy a cocktail before dining; this was good ;because the hotel was buzzing. The menu is interesting making use of local produce with an innovative and competent chef at the helm, a delicious and well presented meal. Top choices were the Chestnut Mushrooms on toasted Brioche, from the Local Heroes Menu, Loin of Venison with juniper berry jus, and for pud the Borders own Ecclefecan Tart with caramel ice cream.
A lovely well run family hotel with friendly staff, who obviously work well as a team and who could not have been more helpful, and knowledgeable. We shall certainly be back; I felt I had arrived home, a comment which rarely comes to mind when staying in a hotel.

Thank you all for making us so welcome.

Just spent three very enjoyable nights at the Tontine on a fishing trip to the Upper Tweed. The hotel is a historic building set back from Peeble's attractive high street which made it an excellent location. One of our party had a room overlooking the river to the rear and the others at the fornt of the hotel. Its a family run establishment with enthusiastic and attentive staff - the restaurant manager had noticed where we liked sitting in the lounge by night 3 and put a reserved sign on the table! The proprietor, Kate, was full of helpful info - always a good sign that a hotel has confidence to recommend other local restaurants.Very enjoyable meal in the hotel's restaurant - venison and ribeye steak perfectly cooked. Good wine list and Broughton Ale's Clipper on draft. The hotel was busy but well managed by a cheerful group. Clearly a popular dining choice locally. Highly reommended.

This hotel is really special. A traditional feel with all the service you would expect from a 5* hotel. Peebles is a delightful town with many individual shops and not a Costa in sight! There's lots of activities so you're never short of options whether it be fishing, golf, walking or cycling. At the end of the day you can relax after a delicious meal in the gorgeous Adams Room. My husband and I have been coming here for many years and each visit confirms just why we keep coming back.

Town Centre Hotel
A family run hotel that would put the big boys to shame. The owners were front and centre at all times. The staff obviously enjoyed there work as nothing was to much trouble. The restaurant was first class. A 3 star hotel that deserves 4. A hotel in the town centre with parking is an added extra. Receptionist very efficient and was just as good as the tourist board for info. Overall a delightful experience and one I will recommend to all.
