The mountain hare, whose fur turns white in winter, can be plentiful in the heather-clad Scottish hills, depending on the success of the breeding season.

Teams of walking guns of between 6-10 are the norm. In order to get full enjoyment of walking up hares on the heather hill a basic level of fitness is required.
